HOPE: Holding One Photo Everyday
A daily photo journal that pairs one picture with how the day felt, then turns years of entries into a single grid of colored days.

Overview
HOPE asks for one photo a day and a quick read on your mood. Over time, the entries form a timeline you can browse by day, by calendar, or as a map of emotions.
Problem and context
Photo libraries keep everything and surface nothing. HOPE is an experiment in keeping less, more deliberately, and attaching feeling to each day.
Technical architecture
Current prototypes are standalone HTML, CSS and Canvas. The planned production stack is Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and Framer Motion.
Design and implementation decisions
- A mood check-in slider with expressive cartoon faces, refined from a functional control into a hand-drawn Canvas rendering.
- An emotion memory view: a 5,000-day canvas grid (about 14 years) where each day is a squircle dot colored by one of 15 named emotions.
- A warm amber design system across a seven-screen mobile mockup: Home, Capture, Timeline, Calendar, Dot Map, Analytics and Profile.
- A landing page with nine animated sections built with GSAP ScrollTrigger and Canvas.
